HOKA Arahi 9 Review: Support Never Looked This Good
The HOKA Arahi has always been one of those shoes you reach for when you want a little more support without the look of a traditional stability shoe. With the new Arahi 9, HOKA keeps that same idea, updating the upper while keeping the cushioning and stability system Arahi fans already know.
We took a closer look at the Arahi 9, including its cushioning, fit, and everyday styling potential, to see who this shoe is made for.
Arahi 9 vs. Arahi 8: What’s New?
Already love your Arahi 8? Good news: HOKA didn’t start from scratch.
The H-Frame stability system and dual-density EVA midsole carry over from the Arahi 8. They aren’t new additions to the Arahi 9, so this update isn’t about reinventing the cushioning underneath your foot.
What’s new is the upper. The Arahi 9 features tighter mesh along the medial side, meaning the inside of the foot, for added support. Haptic print and 3D silicone touchpoints add texture and dimension to the design. The update focuses on the fit and details up top. A little refresh, not a whole new relationship.
First Impression: Sleeker Than Your Average Stability Shoe

One of the first things that stands out about the Arahi 9 is that it doesn’t immediately announce itself as a stability shoe. The streamlined shape and clean upper give it a sporty look without making the design overly busy. It still has that recognizable HOKA cushioning underfoot, with a silhouette that keeps things relatively sleek.
That makes it an easy style to picture beyond your morning run. We’d pair it with leggings and an oversized sweatshirt for a walk, then keep it on for the errands that somehow turn into your entire afternoon.
How Does the Arahi 9 Feel?
The idea behind the Arahi 9 is softness with structure. HOKA places it in its balanced cushioning category. Its dual-density EVA midsole works alongside the H-Frame stability system, combining cushioning with added guidance underneath the foot. The emphasis is on a supported ride, rather than softness alone.
For walking and running, that makes it worth considering when you want cushioning but also prefer a more guided shoe. HOKA designs the Arahi 9 for everyday runs and walking, which is where we’d start the conversation about this style. Your route doesn’t need to involve a training plan, either. A neighborhood loop and a coffee stop are perfectly good reasons to lace up.
The Support
This is where the Arahi 9 stands out. The H-Frame is designed to help limit excessive inward rolling, also called overpronation, without overcorrecting your stride. The goal is to provide guidance while allowing your movement to stay natural.
There is also additional structure through the engineered mesh upper, particularly along the inside of the foot. That tighter medial mesh is part of the Arahi 9’s upper refresh and is designed to add support in that area. If you tend to overpronate or prefer a more guided walking shoe, this is a style we’d suggest trying. Just remember that “more support” doesn’t automatically mean “better for everyone.” Your feet get the final say.
The Cushion
If you’re expecting the plush cushioning focus of the HOKA Bondi 9, the Arahi 9 takes a different approach. The Bondi 9 is a neutral, plush-cushioned shoe, while the Arahi 9 pairs balanced cushioning with dedicated H-Frame stability. There is still cushioning to work with, but the Arahi’s design puts softness and support together rather than making maximum plushness the main event. Its dual-density midsole is part of that balance.
Our advice? Don’t choose a shoe only because it’s the softest one you tried. Walk around in a few options and pay attention to which one you actually enjoy wearing. The first five seconds are not the entire audition.
The Fit
The engineered mesh upper provides structure around the foot, with tighter mesh along the inside for added support. Since the upper is the main update, this is the part worth paying attention to when comparing the Arahi 9 with your previous pair. We’d still recommend trying your usual HOKA size as a starting point, then taking a few laps to see how the shoe sits around your heel, midfoot, and toes.

The Look
This might be one of our favorite parts of the Arahi 9. Because wanting a supportive shoe doesn’t mean you’ve stopped caring about a cute outfit. We’re with you on that. Alabaster/Oat Milk gives it a soft, neutral look that we’d pair with cream socks, relaxed denim, or an oatmeal-colored sweatshirt. Black/White keeps things classic and sporty, especially with an all-black outfit.
Arahi 9 vs. Other HOKA Styles
If you’re trying to figure out where the Arahi fits within the HOKA lineup, think of it as the cushioned everyday option with added stability.
For a plush cushioning focus, you might lean toward the HOKA Bondi 9. For a neutral everyday running and walking shoe, the Clifton is another option. The Arahi 9 is the one to compare when you want cushioning paired with more guidance and stability underneath the foot.
None of those choices wins automatically. The best comparison is the one you make with both shoes on your feet, not just their product descriptions open in separate tabs.
Who Is the Arahi 9 Best For?

We’d put the Arahi 9 on the try-on list for walkers and everyday runners looking for a stability shoe, particularly those who want help managing excessive inward rolling. Its intended uses include everyday running and walking.
It’s also worth considering if you want a sneaker you can style beyond your workout. We like the idea of one pair that works with your morning walking outfit and the casual clothes you change into afterward. You don’t need to know every shoe term before you come in. Tell us how you plan to wear it, what you like about your current pair, and what you wish were different.
Our Final Take
The HOKA Arahi 9 makes stability less intimidating. Its appeal is the combination of cushioning, guidance, and a streamlined design, with an upper refresh rather than a complete overhaul of the Arahi 8’s foundation.
If you’ve worn the Arahi before, the updated fit is worth exploring. And if you’ve avoided stability shoes because you assumed they couldn’t fit into your everyday wardrobe, this is one we’d put on your try-on list.
